Sommarivo Perno


Located in the southwestern province of Cuneo in Piedmont in between the towns of Alba, capital of the Langhe and truffles and Bra, a town linked to the Slow Food movement, the region of Sommariva Perno covers 18 square kilometers characterized by a remarkable variety of landscapes and geomorphological aspects. In the south which leads down to the Valley Tanaro are the fertile rolling hills where life take the precious and generous wines of Roero.

One of the most interesting and suggestive of the territory is certainly the presence of so-called Roero Rocche, erosion occurred between 230 and 140 thousand years ago that today are shown to the visitor as a succession of ravines and gorges that lays bare walls and pinnacles cutting through the twisted landscape.

Moving north-west the landscape changes again and the hills back to soften down to a forest area once known as silva populares, who still has a rich flora of native species and, from pine to oak, the oak majestic specimens chestnut, and even maple, lime and wild cherry trees surrounded by the colors and scents of geraniums, lilies and primroses. The natural environment of rare beauty lies in Forest Park Roero.

The historic center of Sommariva Perno, whose origins date back to the Roman age, subsequently linked its history over the centuries to the royal house of Savoy and especially the castle dating back to 1153 Mirafiori, theater romance Love lived from King Vittorio Emanuele II and what will be his second wife, Rose Vercellana later became Countess of Mirafiori and more commonly known as "Bela Rosin".
